About Naturopathy

What is Naturopathy?

Naturopathy is a form of medicine that relies on nature for its remedies and the body’s innate wisdom to heal itself. As a holistic medicine, it focuses on the person’s physical, mental and spiritual health in order to treat and prevent illness. Oftentimes, a naturopath will empower their patients to make lifestyle changes, and educate them on how to do so in the best of their health.

Depending on their schooling and licensing in their state of practice, some Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) can perform minor surgeries and prescribe medications, and can diagnose disease just the same as Medical Doctors, although NDs treat these diseases using non-invasive, natural therapies. Naturopathic Doctors can work in partnership with a pregnant woman’s obstetrician, midwife, or family doctor to help ensure a health pregnancy, labor, and birth.

What do Naturopathic Doctors Do?

Many NDs will utilize blood, saliva, urine, and other forms of lab testing as part of their diagnosis process and to help them develop a more precise and individualized treatment plan for their patients.

Some of the therapies that a naturopath might use include:

  • Nutritional Counseling
  • Herbal Medicine
  • Hormone Balancing
  • Homeopathy
  • Acupuncture
  • Hydrotherapy (water therapy)
  • Physical Medicine (therapies utilizing touch or other method of application on the physical body)
  • Detoxification
  • Spirituality
  • Lifestyle and Psychological Counseling

Using the above, naturopathic doctors can help treat the underlying causes of infertility, and in doing so, can help a woman create the most optimal environment for her growing baby. They provide a wide array of options to help with the many complaints and discomforts of pregnancy, can assist in keeping babies and children healthy, and will teach their patients by providing the information necessary to create healthy habits and live in a healthy environment.
