The Healing Pot

In 1993, I entered college with a fresh outlook on life. One "thing" that seemed to be a burden at that time was my menstrual cycle. In high school I would stay home from school because of the nausea and severe cramps. For a while the only things offered were over the counter painkillers and I do remember getting a prescription for a seriously sedative drug that almost made me numb.

Fast forward to college, still on the same regimen of drugs and poor eating habits during my cycle, I was finally told that birth control pills would help regulate my cycle. I was so happy, I knew the end of vomiting and bloating and cramping was here. To my surprise, what began, was three weeks of non-stop bleeding. In the end I had to get suctioned to stop my vaginal bleeding.

This history and my constant research have led me to believe that some of the fertility problems that some women face stem from what we tell our wombs early on. Many of us associate negative words with our cycle. We take pills, insert devices and chemicals and slap on patches to rid us of birth and sometimes a natural monthly cycle. Unknowingly we possibly risk the future health of our womb by opting for immediate relief via pills, patches and implants. We tell our wombs that we don't want our cycles; we tell our wombs that we do not want children and I am concerned that we have forgotten the power of our actions and thoughts. We have sent concrete messages to our wombs, our wombs have listened and now, some wombs are paying the price with emptiness. Is there any recourse? I believe there is and it would begin with how women approach the onset of their cycle and how they follow through with womb communication. There are other, natural ways to control pregnancy and in a revolutionary way, women must seek out this education and renew our wombs faith in us.
