My BabyHawk Story

by Rose Hollo

I’m a fan of BabyHawk, first and foremost, and it just so-happens that I’m BabyHawk Inc.’s social-media manager as well.  Two years ago I had never even heard of BabyHawk, let alone “baby wearing.”  This is my story.

In 2012 my husband and I welcomed our first baby, a “rainbow” miracle, into the world.  Although we were overjoyed and amazed that we actually had a live baby in our arms after a few losses, we were soon overwhelmed by the way our very colicky daughter turned our lives upside-down.

As believers in the attachment-parenting theory (my husband is a Licensed Clinical Counselor, and I’m a bit of a psychology nerd), we decided to try baby wearing after reading about its benefits, especially for colicky newborns.  First, I tried a cheap sling.  She loved it, but it was uncomfortable for me.  Also, my chiropractor vetoed it because I had pelvic injuries from pregnancy and birth.  It just wasn’t evenly supporting her weight.

Next, I tried a wrap.  While my daughter and I loved the wrap, it was really hot to wear and difficult for my husband to use.  The search continued for the right fit.

We next purchased a used BabyHawk Mei Tai from a friend, and it was amazing!  My husband could easily get the carrier on and off, and my daughter would *not cry* in it.  The not-crying moments were few and far between in her first few months, and this carrier literally helped bring us out of our fog!  We were able to get housework done, and even leave the house with her from time-to-time, which was difficult if not impossible before.

Now, one of the best parts of my job with BabyHawk is to help spread the awareness of the benefits of baby wearing, and the great aspects of the products BabyHawk offers. They’re all hand-made carriers, and one of the best quality and supportive carriers on the market for the price.  They’re also very cute!  Robyn Bellovich, owner of BabyHawk Inc., is one of the only commercial baby wearing device makers that offers custom options.  Of course, my husband and I now have our own custom BabyHawk carriers.

In the future, we’re planning to offer blog articles about the benefits of baby wearing, how to properly use mei tais and soft-structured carriers, and heartwarming stories of those whose lives have changed due to the benefits of babywearing.  Experts from Baby Wearing International and others will be writing some posts, and you may see me popping in from time-to-time with my stories about working with BabyHawk.

More about the BabyHawk Mei Tai:

The Original BabyHawk Mei Tai

The modern Mei Tai is borrowed from the ancient Chinese method of babywearing.  Traditionally a large square or rectangular piece of cloth, the Mei Tai was secured by tying its four corners together.  Today's Mei Tai come in a variety of colors and patterns, offering on-the-go families an excellent, comfortable, and stylish solution for carrying babies and toddlers.  Mei Tai offer caregivers three positions for babywearing (front, back, and hip) and can be tied for a custom fit.

BabyHawk Mei Tai can fit women up to size 22/24 and men up to an XXL; you have the option to customize your Mei Tai with extra long straps.   Lightly padded for comfort and durability, Mei Tai straps are 3 3/4 inches wide and is designed for children weighing between 8 lbs. and 40 lbs.  Mei Tai can be machine washed with a small amount of detergent; line drying is recommended to preserve color.

BabyHawk is dedicated to quality carriers that reflect the style of each baby wearer and the creation of jobs in USA.  Your new Mei Tai is proudly made to order in in Oceanside, California with 100% cotton chino twill and 100% quilting quality cotton.
