It’s Conceivable! Using the Power of Your Mind to Help you Conceive

The average price of IVF is easily $10,000-$20,000 and the procedure is often repeated 3 to 4 times. The price of donor egg IVF is considerably more and the procedure may also need to be repeated. The cost of hiring a surrogate is typically around $100,000 and there are no guarantees in any of these scenarios. Some insurance companies cover some of the financial expenses, but the emotional impact of infertility can be devastating.

At the present time, women aged 35 and up are immediately considered “high-risk”. The media is inundated with stories of the rise in the rates of infertility and the increasing need for medical intervention. It is now a common belief that it isn’t that easy to have a baby these days.

Stress is an important factor to consider when working with infertility. Oftentimes, people that receive a diagnosis of infertility are told to “relax” & when they learn to relax, their body will function properly. Well, what happens when you tell someone that they are infertile? They get stressed! How easy is it for someone who has been told they may never be able to conceive to relax? Not very easy. When a person’s body is under stress, the body releases the “fight or flight” response. This response releases chemicals that cause the blood & oxygen to go to the heart & lungs & arms & legs in order to “save” the person from the stress, which can be a perceived stressor (being told you’re infertile) or an actual stressor (being robbed). The blood & oxygen is sent to the defense systems so that the person can escape. When this response is released in the body, the reproductive system does not receive the blood & oxygen it needs to function properly. Only the regular and consistent practice of relaxation will facilitate the restoration of endorphins, the relaxing hormone, which will help the body function normally. Lack of health and vitality is the natural result of disharmony between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems and leads to a variety of stress-related symptoms including “unexplained infertility.” HypnoFertility provides an effective means of establishing restoration of the nervous system and enables women to establish the level of safety essential for reproduction to occur.

Every thought you think creates a chemical or physical change within your body. Think about a big presentation that you have to do for work and you will most likely feel butterflies in your stomach, a dry mouth, and sweaty palms. Think about your favorite restaurant and favorite entrée and you will most likely start to feel hungry. A negative thought like “I’ll never get pregnant” can and will create that reality in your body if you think about it enough. Unexpressed or unresolved feelings can also block the body’s ability to conceive. HypnoFertility® is the method of teaching the body and mind to work together to achieve your goal of having a baby.

According to the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, 6.1 million American women and their partners experience difficulties in conceiving a child. Worldwide it is estimated that 10 to 15% of couples of childbearing age experience infertility. Many of these families will turn to Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART). Studies have shown that including hypnotherapy in their treatment can double their success rate. The Journal of the American Medical Women's Association reported in 1999 that 42% of women were able to conceive within six months of being taught mind/body relaxation techniques. Additionally, these women were able to affectively decrease their levels of stress, anxiety and depression. Other studies have been conducted, all with similar results.

In an article by Suzy Greaves entitled “Can Hypnosis Help to Make You Pregnant?” Dr. Elizabeth Muir, a clinical psychologist who uses hypnotherapy for infertility, explains that hypnosis does have an effect on the hypothalamus—the neural center located at the base of the brain and linked to the pituitary gland—and controls the flow of hormones in the body. The hypothalamus is sensitive to stress and acts as a bridge between the emotional and physical, turning emotional messages into physical responses that impact hormone levels. According to Greaves, Muir believes that the psychological issues surrounding pregnancy are not sufficiently well addressed for many women with fertility problems.

Studies conducted by Alice Domar, PhD, director of the Beth Israel Deaconess Behavioral Medicine Program for Infertility in Boston support Muir's theory that unresolved issues about having a baby can be removed with counseling and mind/body techniques such as hypnotherapy. In the first of Domar’s studies, published in 1999 in the Journal of the American Medical Women's Association, 42% of 132 infertile women in the program conceived within six months of completing it. In the second study, published in 2000 in the journal Fertility and Sterility, 55% of the previously infertile women who met regularly in a mind/body program conceived, compared with 20% of the control group who used no mind/body techniques and who did not attend meetings.

Research has shown hypnotherapy is an effective treatment for weight loss, smoking cessation, stress relief and changing habits. These issues often get in the way of conceiving. No matter what your diagnosis is, hypnotherapy will reduce your stress, increase your confidence and return your sense of control. This will increase your chances of conceiving naturally or increase the chances of your medical procedure being successful.

It’s Conceivable! is a book written by Certified Hypnotherapist, Lynsi Eastburn. She is the creator of HypnoFertility. Her book shares how HypnoFertility was created and case studies of successful HypnoFertility clients of hers. HypnoFertility has been successfully helping women get pregnant for over 5 years.

HypnoFertility® uses the power of the mind to help the body become ready for pregnancy. HypnoFertility® reduces stress, increases confidence, and instills a sense of control in the client, which in turn enables her to maximize chances of conceiving naturally or increase the success of medical assistance.
