Cranial Chiropractic Care and Infants

Cranial  and Spinal Subluxations:  Affect the neurological function of cranial nerves (i.e. pressure on the hypoglossal nerve as it exits the canal may result in dysfunction of the tongue) and upper cervical spine. Subluxations can result from vaginal birth, c-section, use of forceps, vacuum or force, and in-utero malposition.

Cranial Nerve:

What Nerve Controls:

Cranial Nerves IX-XI exit the brain at the jugular foramen, Cranial Nerve XII exits in the hypoglossal canal. The jugular foramen and the hypoglossal canal sit between the occiput and temporal bones (base of skull) in the cranium. Cranial imbalances often impact these openings in turn putting pressure on the nerves exiting resulting in a symptomatic infant.

Jaw imbalances can often result from the birth process. If jaw imbalances are involved the infant may suffer with inability to open wide enough for proper latch, biting or chewing while nursing. Mom will be experience flattened nipples, cracked or bleeding nipples.

Chiropractic Adjustment- Using slight movements and pressure cranial and spinal imbalances can be corrected. This will take the pressure of the nervous system allowing the child’s nervous system to adapt and heal.
