We had the chance to ask Dr. Posenaer some questions about her inspiration in working with pregnancy and babies - check out what she had to say!

1. What is your relationship to fertility, pregnancy, birth, and/or mommy/baby care, and how does your work relate to it?

I am a chiropractic neurologist specializing in pregnancy and functional nutrition.  I work with women trying to get pregnant, women challenged with fertility, prenatal care, all the way through postnatal care for mom and baby.  By supporting you structurally and nutritionally throughout this journey, I help you have a much easier, healthier, happier pregnancy experience!

2. What inspired you to do the work you do?

I have been in awe of the creation of life since as long as I can remember.  There is nothing more intriguing to me than how a single cell transforms into the intricate and intelligent creatures we are as human beings.  As I started learning more and more about everything our body’s, as women, go through to create a baby, I knew that my work somehow had to involve educating women about what a beautiful, natural, amazing process this is.  It became my passion to get my hands on as many pregnant women as possible to ensure each one of you the best fighting chance at having the natural, most enjoyable (and pain free) pregnancy you can.  Every pregnant journey I get to embark on with my patients is an honor.

3. What is the most important thing a pregnant woman or a woman trying to conceive should know about her body, giving birth, and caring for herself and her baby, based on your personal and professional experience?

One of the things I try to always stress to my pregnant mamas is to make sure you take care of YOU.  The baby has the best environment with which to grow and develop when you and your body are not stressed out, structurally, chemically, or emotionally.  Your body is undergoing incredible changes physically, but make sure you support it structurally with exercise, yoga, massage, and chiropractic.  Chemically, be aware of all the things you are putting into your body, knowing it directly affects your growing baby.  Also, understand that every one of your organs are working overtime to help support the growth of your baby, so make sure you support them as well.  Excess fatigue, for example, is often indicative of adrenal exhaustion, therefore, supporting your adrenals with supplementation may be needed and very beneficial.  Every thought that enters your mind influences your entire physiology, and has direct effects on your overall health and wellbeing.  Take captive of your thoughts, allowing only positive ones to penetrate your mind, body, and baby.

4. What is your biggest obstacle in supporting pregnant or trying-to-conceive women and/or babies?

I think my biggest obstacle is probably supporting women trying to conceive who want natural intervention, but underestimate all that this support entails.  I am confident that our natural physiology, as women, is 100% capable of conceiving and supporting pregnancy free of pain, discomfort, and complications.  There are, however, many variables that come into play that may prevent or challenge this process from occurring.  Women who struggle with conceiving or sustaining a pregnancy often have something in their physiology that is askew.  Getting this back to optimal function, naturally, is 100% possible with dedication and diligence on the part of the mom to be.  This means dietary modifications, support of certain organ systems, and changes in daily activity.  Once we can get your body back to actual health, pregnancy is completely possible and very probable.  I have had incredible results working with women struggling with infertility, but the results are reflective of my knowledge and guidance transposed into your actions.

5. Tell me your best success story.

Every story is my best success story!  No, truly though, there isn’t a single person that walks through my door that doesn’t receive some benefit, relief, or new piece of information.  I had a patient not too long ago that came to me with your typical aches and pains from pregnancy: neck pain, shoulder tightness, low back pain, hip pain, shortness of breath, and some urinary incontinence.  Despite all this, her biggest concern was her breech baby.  After the first session with me, she got up and felt as though she could “dance.”  Her hips, low back, shoulders, and neck had significant relief.  We also did some diaphragm release, which helped her to finally be able to take a deep breath again.  After the second session, her baby girl was head down, as confirmed on ultrasound.  I worked with her all throughout her pregnancy and after.  I saw her 2 days after birth due to some neck strain from labor.  Her baby is now 9 months, and I continue to see both her and her baby for structural and nutritional support and to ensure her baby is growing and developing as optimally as possible!
