Our Interview with Rachel Adams Gonzales

Rachel, please tell us a little about yourself.

I am a mama to my 2 1/2 year old son and daughter due April 2013, a cultural anthropologist by trade, and a product consultant for doTERRA Essential oils. I have been selling doTERRA oils for two years after searching for safe and natural remedies for my new baby and was completely blown away by their effectiveness in both prevention of illness and their healing properties. I have seen how incredible these oils can be during pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum. As a result, I have focused my business on teaching families how to keep everyone in the family happy and healthy with the use of doTERRA 100% certified pure therapeutic grade essential oils. It gives me great joy to have the privilege of sharing this amazingly empowering tool with my clients, friends, and family. Please don't hesitate tocontact mewith any questions you may have; we have an oil for everything!!

What is your relationship to fertility, pregnancy, birth,and/or mommy/baby care, and how does your work relate to it?

I am a huge advocate of natural birth and all practices surrounding it. I have personally struggled with health issues from a young age that pushed me in a direction where I foundmyself listening to my body, understanding how and why I would react both physically and emotionally to my surroundings, diet, and medications, and learning to trust my instincts. While this was a challenge to begin at age 13, it laid the ground work for my now inherent belief in the strength of a woman’s body. Now having experienced the raw nature of theun-medicated birth when my son was born, I am even more passionate about empowering women in any way I can to trust and believe in their own abilities to carry, birth, and care fortheir children. I am incredibly fortunate to have such an amazing product at my fingertips that can easily be shared with women to be used in fertility, pregnancy, birth, postpartum, babyand child care!

What inspired you to do the work you do?

I have heard countless times from friends and family that they don’t want to take or give their children medication but they feel helpless and don’t know what else to do or where else toturn. Since I have started sharing doTERRA essential oils and my personal experiences using them, I have seen many of them gain so much pride and confidence in their abilities to carefor themselves and their families. This has caused a chain reaction in starting to take more of an interest in diet, exercise, and an overall well-balanced lifestyle. It is an incredibly beautifulprocess to witness and I’m so proud to be a part of it!

What is the most important thing a pregnant woman or a woman trying to conceive shouldknow about her body, giving birth, and caring for herself and her baby, based on your personal and professional experience?

Trust yourself. You know your body and your baby better than anyone else. If somethingmakes you uncomfortable, even if you are unable to logically explain why, trust it and don’t be afraid to use your voice. On the other hand, everyone makes choices at some point that theywish they hadn’t, forgive yourself and learn from your experiences.

What is your biggest obstacle in supporting pregnant or trying-to-conceive women and/orbabies?

I can provide women with an amazing tool to support all aspects of fertility, pregnancy, birth, and baby care, but I can’t make them use it. Some women have a lifetime of experience usingalternative medicines and are accustomed to integrating essential oils into daily life, but this is the minority in my experience. A woman needs to be ready to take her healthcare and that ofher family into her own hands, no one else can force her into that.

Tell me your best success story.

I have spent much time reflecting, trying to choose one story and I can’t! Some of my favorite moments are those when a woman is ecstatic because our hormone balancing blend isrelieving the intense menstrual cramps she has been dealing with for years, or the phone call that after months of trying my dear friend finally tried that same blend and is pregnant, or thewomen that have nearly been in tears because it has balanced their menopause roller coaster!

There are few things that make me happier than hearing a mama try DigestZen, our digestive blend, on her colicky newborn with great success!

I love witnessing a calm come over a mother preparing for birth as she finds the oils that shebest responds to for those very delicate and precious moments at the end of pregnancy. In the end, every woman and parent that I work with is a success story. They now have another tool,a bit more education, and the ability to take their health care and their children’s into their own hands and that is why I love what I do!
