You don’t have to be a publicity expert or spend thousands of dollars on television ads to share your marketing message. Just askJoan Stewart, The Publicity Hound! Joan will tell you that all you need is the desire to be seen or heard, a little creativity, and some helpful resources.

Here are 7 free publicity ideas to get you started:

  1. To promote your expertise, write “how-to” articles and post them to (and is always looking for great articles as well! Click herefor more info.). These same articles can be sent to newspapers, magazines, trade publications, and print and electronic newsletters.
  2. Create your own blog and blog at least three times a week on your topic. Many journalists who do their research online interview bloggers.
  3. Get to know reporters who cover your industry. Offer yourself as someone they can call on for background, commentary, and story ideas. Call and ask, “How can I help you?”
  4. Sign up for free email alerts from HARO – You will receive about three emails a day – morning, afternoon, and evening.
  5. Post short videos about your product, service, cause, or issue to YouTube and other video-sharing sites.
  6. Post comments at other blogs even if you disagree with the blogger. Most blogs allow people commenting to include their website URL. (Guess what? All articles and blog posts allow for commenting, so post up!)
  7. Participate at social media sites like Facebook, Squidoo, LinkedIn, Twitter, and HubPages. These sites are growing by the day, with millions of people turning to them instead of traditional media for their news, entertainment, and networking.

Use free publicity to establish your credibility, enhance your reputation, position yourself as an expert, promote a favorite cause, and sell more products and services.
