The overgrowth of yeast in a baby's mouth can give rise to an infection called thrush, which can then be passed on to the mother during breastfeeding.  Thrush that infects a breastfeeding mom can cause itching, painful, and burning nipples, deep, shooting breast pain, and may present with a vaginal yeast infection as well.  A common cause of this overgrowth is the administration of antibiotics during childbirth, such as those given for group B strep during labor.

It is very important treat both mother and baby at the same time for thrush so that the infection is not passed back and forth.  A baby who has thrush can present with white patches in the mouth, diaper rashes, and fussiness when feeding or sucking.

Use the following tips, suggestions, and related information to learn more about finding natural options and support for both mom and baby dealing with thrush.
